11 civilians injured in a blanket assault by SLN in Trincomalee
Eleven civilians were injured in the indiscriminate shooting in Trincomalee on 19th January. SLN entered the shops, saloon and fruit shop and assaulted the people indiscriminately. The SLN attack took place after a grenade was hurled at a military vehicle at the Anuradhapuram-Trincomalee junction.
The injured civilians are Benadict(38), Vinorajan(27), Amalathas(48), Navas(42), Pakiyaraj(24), Arulraj(30), Ravichandran(37), Jeyachandran(34), Chandrasekaran(38), Masuf(73) and Robinson(37). Two civilians assaulted in Chavakachcheri SLA randomly attacked two civilians after hearing gunshots somewhere in Chavakachchri town on 19th January. M. Arunkumar(26) from Thellippalai, working in a shop, and K. Mathavan(53), an accountant from Madduvil, were injured seriously. Both were admitted to the Jaffna teaching hospital. People closed their shops in panic after this incident. A civilian killed in Batticaloa A civilian was killed in a claymore attack which took place around 5.00 pm on 19th January at Depot junction in Batticaloa.
