Seven Tamil civilians killed in 24 hours

Seven Tamil civilians were killed in 24 hours by SLA and its paramilitaries in Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar and Trincomalee.

Mannar

Two young men on motorbikes traveling along the Madu road in Mannar in LTTE area came under the claymore attack which was laid by SLA deep penetration unit. Both men died instantly. They are, Thambaih Yogarasa (20) and Yoganathan Sarventhiran (25) both from Madu in Mannar.

Trincomalee-Chinabay

Paramilitary arrived in white-van at a private home in Trincomalee on 21 April during the hours when SLA imposed curfew was in effect and shot the residents.

The home was in Chinabay in the resettlement village of Kavadikuda. One of the residents Kandasamy Nallammah (49) was killed on the spot. Her husband Pasupathipillai Kandasamy (50) was critically injured in his head and eyes and was taken to the intensive care unit at hospital.

Trincomalee-Kanniya

Pakyaraja Baskar (16) was detained at a roadside SLA checkpoint in Kanniya in Trincomalee and was attacked severely by the SLA. The boy was then dragged into the SLA camp nearby.

The body of Baskar was found the next morning, four Kms from this camp, in front of the Mihunthapuram Technical College.

It is worth noting that the father of Baskar was also shot dead by SLA in the past.

Jaffna-Nelliyadi

Two three-wheeler owner/drivers were shot dead by paramilitaries on motorbikes near the Nelliyadi central bus stand in Jaffna on 22 April at 5.00 pm. The usual SLA patrol in the area had withdrawn at that time and returned to the spot only after the gunmen escaped on their motorbikes.

The two men killed are, Subramanium Vaseekaran (28), father of two children, and Rasaratnam Yasinthan (23) also of Karaveddi.

Veppankulam-Vavuniya

Satkunaraja Rajapathman (31), wner of Madumatha Stores in Veppankulam in Vavuniya was shot and killed by paramilitaries on 22 April at 8.00 pm.
