SLA activities in Northeast on 2 May 2006

Businessman shot dead by paramilitary in Thirunelveli in Jaffna

On 2 May, paramilitary gunmen entered a hairdressing saloon in Thirunelveli, Jaffna, and opened fire. A customer who is also a businessman was killed and the owner of the hair dressing saloon was injured.

The dead man is Arumugarasa Theivendran (54) and the injured man is Vallipuram Suganathan (34).

Driver of three-wheeler shot dead in Kodikamam, Jaffna

Paramilitary gunmen on motorbike shot and killed a three-wheeler driver, Selvaratnam Muthuseelan (35), at the three-wheeler stand in Kodikaman in Jaffna on 2 May at 10.45 am.

SLA crosses FDL to attack civilians

On 2 May, SLA crossed the Forward Defense Lines between LTTE and GoSL in Mannar and entered the Madu region in LTTE area to carry out an attack on the civilians. One woman was killed and two injured.

Sivagnanasundaram Kalaranee (50), a female farmer, was killed in the SLA attack on civilians. Another woman farmer, Veeraih Jeyaladchumi (50) and Udaiyappan Veerappan (60) were injured and taken to the Adampan hospital.

Farmers were returning from the paddy fields with sacks of harvested paddy when SLA penetrated the FDL to carryout the attack.

SLA attacks LTTE area of Iralkuli in Trincomalee

On 2 May from 9.00 am, SLA carried out an hour of simultaneous shelling from land and sea on the LTTE post in Iralkuli village in Trincomalee. LTTE counter attacked and the SLA and SLN abandoned their attack.

During the attack, one civilian was seriously injured. Large number of civilians has started to displace to safer areas following the attack.
