TRO lorry abducted by GoSL operated forces
A TRO lorry was abducted by GoSL operated forces while it was on the way to Vakarai from Valaichenai, Batticaloa on 24 July around 4.00 pm. The lorry was carrying the building items for a tsunami reconstruction project. This lorry was abducted by the GoSL operated forces in Mankerni Pillaiyar Kovilay at about 4.00 pm.
The GoSL operated forces stopped the vehicle at gunpoint near the Mankerni Pillaiyar temple in the GoSL controlled area. The driver, Kanaharathinam Santhirakumar, and the lorry attendant told the SLA that they were transporting items for reconstruction projects for the tsunami affected people. The SLA then forcefully pulled the driver and the attendant from the lorry and confiscated the lorry (WPJF-6181- Ashok Layland). Since the abduction of seven TRO employees by GoSL operated forces in January, threats and violence against TRO workers are continuing in various ways, preventing the important efforts being made for the affected people.
