
Situation in Jaffna
Increased checking on the road
Sri Lankan military has stepped up checking people on the streets for the last two days in Inuvil and Maruthanamadam in Jaffna. Pedestrians and passengers in vehicles have been thoroughly checked by the Sri Lankan military patrol by foot and motorbike.
In rural areas, people are in fear because the Sri Lankan military has increased its checking procedures in villages as well. Woemen, especially those on motor bike are being stopped frequently. Female school teachers, students, youths and working women are in state of fear and are afraid to go outside. Jaffna Hindu College Principal threatened Jaffna Hindu College Principal was inquired by the Sri Lankan military regarding the hand grenade attack which tool place near the school on Kankesanthurai road. The Principal was invited to the near by military camp and intimidated by the military. Sri Lankan military accused that some of the school students are linked with the grenade attack and intimidated the Principal to hand them over three students. School students are in fear as a result of this intimidation of their principal.
