How to manufacture a ‘terrorist’
Five eyewitness accounts are given below of how a terrorist is manufactured in the NorthEast. Scores of more terrorists are manufactured using this same method.
Case one: On 23 June 2006 Anthony Balashankar (35) a Tamil fisherman from Sirukandal, Mannar was arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy. In Mannar court Balashankar’s police statement was read. It stated that he was stopped and questioned by the SLN soldiers when he was in Murunkan selling fish. He said he was allowed to go after being questioned and a few minutes later the SLN soldiers called him back and, “took him to a side and forced a grenade in his hand and told him that he was under arrest him for possessing a grenade.” Case two: On 17 June 2006 Kathamuththu Rajanayagam was riding his bicycle on a main road in Santhiveli, Batticaloa when Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldiers ordered him to stop. Rajanayagam did not stop immediately and the SLA soldiers shot him. Sivathesam, his wife, stated in court that she was running toward the scene, after being told by neighbors that her husband was shot, and she saw, “SLA soldier hide a hand grenade inside his clothing.” Case three: On 28 December 2005 Thambirajah Arulajanthan was shot and killed by SLA in Kodikammam, Jaffna. Prior to his killing, the SLA visited his home and harassed his brother, Kirubaharan, accusing him of being a LTTE member. In a NESOHR report filed after Arulajanthan’s killing, his family stated that, “One day following the search, two grenades were found in the backyard. These two grenades were placed there by the military.” Case four: On 30 April 2006 a Hindu priest was assaulted by the SLA. When he lodged a complaint with NESOHR on the incident he stated, “Once they finished beating me, they brought me out of the house and forced me to hold a hand grenade. I put my hands behind my back and refused to touch it.” Case five: On 2 October 1985 Ponnuthurai Pakiyanathan of Piramanthanaru, Kilinochchi was captured and killed by the SLA at his home. His sister, Thurairasa Saradha Devi, stated, “They took him by the side of the helicopter, made him hold a rifle, and took video footage and a photo. Afterwards they said that he is a LTTE member because they had a photo of him holding a weapon.”
