Oppressive SLA…

SLA expands Chavakachcheri camp

The Perunkulam SLA camp in Chavakachcheri is being expanded by the SLA. People adjacent to the camp have displaced as a result. Any trees from which people obtain fruits, etc. are being cut down in order to expand the camp. People fear that their land is being included in the camp without any authorization from them.

SLA threatens people in Jaffna

The school community in Jaffna has said that SLA are entering the schools at night without authority and are pasting notices threatening teachers and students that they should not support the LTTE.

In Kokkuvil paramilitary groups are approaching young people and persuading them to join paramilitary groups. In some instances they are threatening the young people to join.

Notices placed by people to commemorate Annai Poobathy are being ripped by intoxicated SLA and EPDP personnel who roam the street at night.

SLA intelligence personnel are approaching people and threatening them saying that they support the LTTE. They are also looking for young men and are approaching families of young men and are threatening them. People fear that many intelligence personnel armed in civil clothes are roaming the area.

Release of fisherman arrested sought by his wife

Anthony Thomas (33), a fisherman, was arrested in the Mannar sea while he was fishing. He has not been released yet. His wife lodged a complaint with the citizens committee in Mannar, requesting the release of her husband. The Committee promised to take the complaint to the Mannar branch of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.
