
November fortnight civilian toll
Statistics on the civilian toll for the November fortnight (till 15 Nov) is given as table below.
Of the 39 civilians shot and killed by paramilitary groups and Sri Lankan military in the Northeast, 23 killings were from Jaffna and 7 are from Batticaloa.
Another 62 civilians died due to Sri Lankan military bombing and shelling. This includes the 47 killed in the Kathiraveli school refugee camp shelling on 8 November. Six of the deaths were caused by the bombing near Kilinochchi hospital on 2 November in which five from one home died and a heart patient at the hospital also died due to shock. The other nine civilians were killed in Vaharai a location of great human tragedy. In this fortnight 22 civilians were disappeared by the Sri Lankan military and paramilitary groups. Nine of the disappearances are from Jaffna. Eight civilians were abducted from Thirukovil in Amparai in one incident.
