GoSL military reign in Tamil homeland….

Jaffna

Checking: All young men are body checked at most checkpoints. Motorbikes are one of the most common modes of transport. These are stopped and even the motorbike seats are opened and checked causing delays.

Mushrooming camps: Big and small SLA camps are propping up. New camps have been seen at Old Puthur junction, Maruthanamadam junction, all junctions in KKS, and in the Chemmani open land. Mini camps have been setup inside many empty land and even inside the sections of private land where there are people living.

Use of two story premises: All commercial two story buildings are freely used by the SLA as observation posts.

Excessive speed barriers: The number and degree of speed barriers on the roads have in fact become danger to the traveling public. Very high speed bumps forces cyclists with heavy load to get off their bicycles and walk for long distances. Many people earn a living by carting heavy loads on their bicycles.

Long arm-barriers: Many long arm-barriers force the vehicles to slow down and take sharp zigzag through the barriers. Large buses have great difficulty navigating though these barriers.

Road closures: Whenever a military convoy has to pass through a road, that road is closed for the public for at least an hour. Many roads are permanently closed. The road leading to the main EPDP office in town is permanently closed.

Trincomalee

House to house beating: On 16 June, SLA enters homes in Anpuvalipura, Kanthinagar and Apayapuram, went house to house at night at 10.00 pm and beat the occupants.

Tsunami camp threats: SLA have entered tsunami camp in Kumpidupiddy, Navalkuda area and issued death threats to the residents. SLA has also warned that it will not allow the residents to sleep at night. These are seen by the people as efforts to displace the people from the area.

Travel ban by terror: Following the murder and abduction of many people who have traveled to GoSL controlled area in Trincomalee from the LTTE area of Mutur and Samppor, people in these LTTE areas have almost stopped traveling to the GoSL controlled areas and are feeling imprisoned and cutoff.
