SLA creates dangerous environment for civilians in Jaffna
The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) is disregarding civilian safety in Jaffna by driving military vehicles at high speed near schools and destroying street lights.
Speeding military vehicles pose danger SLA soldiers are driving military vehicles at high speed, putting at risk the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Many of the main roads that the speeding vehicles are traveling on are close to schools, causing a great danger to children walking and cycling to school. School sources stated that there were several near-miss accidents involving school children and military vehicles. Despite the concern expressed by school officials and residents, military vehicles are ignoring all speed limits and continue to travel at high speed. Street lights destroyed by SLA Many street lights were destroyed recently by SLA throughout Jaffna town and its suburbs. As a result, many said parts of the town and suburbs are in complete darkness after 6:00 pm. This encourages anti-social activities, such as robbery in homes. People in Jaffna town area have requested that all the street lights broken by the SLA to be replaced.
