SLA and paramilitaries unleash fear in Batticaloa

More than 200 Sri Lankan Army (SLA) and paramilitary soldiers rounded up and threatened civilians from five villages in Batticaloa on Tuesday, 28 March at 5:00 am.
About 250 residents from Kannan Kiramam, Vinayagapuram, Kannakipuram, Pethalai, Puthukudiyiruppu were rounded up by heavily armed SLA and paramilitary soldiers and brought to Pechiyamman temple where members of Karuna group, ENDLF and EPDP addressed the civilians. The paramilitary members threatened civilians by demanding that they support their efforts and operations. The paramilitary groups are reported to have connections with the Sri Lanka Army camp in Valachenai Harbour. Dead body found in Kaluwanchchikudi The body of Thambirajah Thankarajah (55), a father of two children, was found in a well in Onthachchimadam village of Kaluwanchchikudi on Tuesday, 28 March. Thankarajah’s body was found with severe wounds from beating and stabbing. Investigations are being conducted by the Kaluwanchchikudi police. This type of killing, when the body has stab wounds and is disposed in this manner, is a similar pattern of killing carried out by paramilitaries in recent times.
