Jaffna Fisheries Society President abductedRasathurai Inthirarajah (38), President of the Aathikovilady Fisheries Society, disappeared on Friday, 21 July. His family stated that he left his home by bicycle in Valvettithurai to the Fisheries Society office in Point Pedro and has not returned since then.Myliddy Fisheries Society President, Justin Cruz (35) was recently abducted in Point Pedro by GoSL operated forces in a white van. Jaffna Fisheries Society members believe the Sri Lankan army (SLA) is behind the abduction and stated they would begin a protest campaign if the men are not released immediately. Assault and harassment of fishermen in Jaffna seas continue daily and fishing communityis suffering due to loss of their livelihood. 24 July 2006
