
Activities of GoSL operated forces – 1 July to 3 July
Trincomalee: killing: The dead body of Subramaniam Thivaharan (38), an NGO worker, was found after he was abducted by GoSL operated forces in Mutur as he was boarding the Mutur ferry. Thivaharan was with his wife when he was abducted. His body was found blindfolded, hands bound, with gunshot wounds in his head and neck.
Since the end of May, six other Tamil civilians have been targeted in the same area of Mutur, three of them were later found dead and the other three remain missing, strongly suspected to be dead. Trincomalee: injury: John Peter (37), a labourer, was severely injured by GoSL operated forces on 1 July. The gunmen called Peter from his home and was forced to go with them. The gunmen later left Peter outside of his home, with severe beating wounds. Peter is currently receiving treatment at Trincomalee hospital. Trincomalee: shelling: The SLA began shelling civilian areas from the Monkey Bridge SLA camp in Kaddiparichchan in Mutur on Monday, 3 July at 6.10 am. The shelling lasted for one hour and started again at 3.50 pm. People from Kaddiparichchan and Sampoor areas already displaced from earlier shelling attacks and are living as refugees in Verukal. Jaffna: harassment: In Vadamarachchi large groups of Sri Lankan army (SLA) soldiers recently carried out cordon and search operations in many residential areas from 5.00 am until evening. The areas include Vathiri junction, Alvai, Muththumary Amman Kovilady, Malusanthi, Ubayakathirgamam and Nelliyadi junction. A large number of SLA soldiers are deployed along the roads in these areas. Recently devotees walking to Vallipuram temple were prevented them from reaching the temple by the SLA. Youth walking along roads, show their ID cards to the SLA, are ordered to report to the SLA office at Nelliyadi junction to show their ID cards. Batticaloa: injury: Krishnapillai Karunaharan (28), an auto-rickshaw driver, was shot and injured when GoSL operated paramilitaries stole his three-wheeler near Valaichenai Railway station on Sunday, 2 July around 12.30 pm.
