Voices of refugees – 4 (from Jaffna)
Amutha“We walked 3 Kms on 11 August and then a truck picked us up and we came to this church in Kilinochchi. We were already displaced from Sri Lankan military controlled area to east Jaffna that is under the LTTE due to fear. When the clashes started on 11 August, the entire villages of Uduththurai, Chempianpatru, and Maruthankerni, all together about 2000 families started to walking towards Kilinochchi.”
Navaratnam Thangavelayutham “My daughter, Kumuthini, was suffering from an illness that was not diagnosed. We displaced with our sick daughter. She is 16 years old and was studying at school. We were first displaced from Sri Lankan military controlled areas to LTTE area in Jaffna. From there we displaced to this church in Kilinochchi. All my married children have also displaced to here with their families.”
N Vadivel,
“Children are not going to school now. We hope we can get back home before the rainy season. Not sure what we will do if it rains.”
