Violence in Northeast reported on 22-01-2006Cheddikulam-VavuniyaTwo youth were shot and killed by police in Cheddikulam in Vavuniya following grenade attacks on the police. Police opened fire on passers by after a grenade attack on their post which wounded one police men. The bodies of the two youths killed by the police fire that was directed at the passers by were taken to the Vavuniya hospital. 61 year old man shot and killed in Point Pedro in Jaffna Radhakrishnan (61), father of four, was shot and killed inside his home by invaders at 9.50 pm on Saturday night. The incident took place in Thunnalai in Point Pedro in Jaffna. Radhakrishnan home is locted near Gnanasariyar college. More than ten masked men demanded that the people in Radhakrishnan’s house to open the door. The occupants refused to open the door. The gunmen then jumped over the wall and shot Radhakrishnan and escaped. Radhakrishnan worked at the Jaffna Road Development Board as a technical advisor. Lately he was working in Kilinochchi on a contract basis in the Road Development Services. He recently returned from Kilinochchi. Family went to the Point Pedro police station to lodge the incident but the police there refused to take the case an told the family to take the body to the Jaffna teaching hospital. Family frightened to take the body to the Jaffna teaching hospital in the night kept the body at home until the next morning. Tea shop owner shot dead in Jaffna Thurairasa Raveenthiran (34), father of four was shot dead on Friday night at 8.00 pm in his tea shop by two men on a motorbike. He died on the spot. His body was taken to the Jaffna teaching hospital on Saturday. Businessman shot dead in Meesalai in Jaffna Nadarasa Yogeswararaja (30) of Puththur in Meesalai was shot in his shop by men in motorbikes. Nanthakumar, working in the adjacent shop, was seriously wounded and was taken to the hospital. Members of his family say that SLA soldiers went looking for him to his home the day before and the SLA soldiers who regularly man the sentry points near the home were absent from their posts at that time. Mamankam-Batticaloa Subramanium Kireshkumar (20) was shot and killed near the Sathasahaya church in Mamangam in Batticaloa on Saturday morning. His body was taken to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital. 22 January 2006
