Tamil National Leader bestows Mamanithar honour on late Satchithananthasivam
Late Mr. Satchithananthasivam alias Gnanarathan was honoured with the Mamanithar title by the Tamil National Leader. Excerpts from the statement issued by the LTTE Head Office are as follows.
“We have lost a wonderful person today who tirelessly worked for the freedom and progress of our nation. Our nation is mourning this great loss. Mr. Y Satchithananthasivam, endearingly referred by everyone as Gnanarathan Anna, is a great man. Yet, he valued simplicity. He is a true national patriot. He longed for the freedom of this nation. He joined hands with our poralikal and worked tirelessly for that goal. He served in many different sections of our freedom movement. The services he rendered through his intellect and hard work for the freedom of our nation is admirable. He is an exceptional writer, a capable artist, and a great political thinker. He wrote profusely in the papers and magazines and raised the awareness of our struggle among our people. He exposed the falsity of the Sinhala chauvinistic propaganda. Above all he was the main force behind the development of our visual media. He supported, encouraged and enriched the Nitharsanam division ever since it was formed. He trained our poralikal in this field. He is the king pin in developing this section to the extent that today it is broadcasting programs around the world. He produced short movies to full length movies under the pseudonym of Gnanarathan. He helped to make the Oliveechchu documentaries that brought out the sacrifices made in the battle ground for the independence of our nation. His quiet steady contribution to the freedom struggle is immeasurable”, said the statement.
