Activities of GoSL operated forces 22-23 AugustKandaih Ganesalingam (34), a business man from Urupirai in Jaffna was shot dead when he went to Chunnakam during the period of few hours when curfew was lifted in Jaffna. There have been several such shooting in Jaffna of civilians who ventured out when the continuous curfew in place for 10 days in Jaffna is lifted for a few hours each day.
Raveenthirarasa (32) who went hunting in Periyapuliyankulam in Vavuniya was shot dead by the Sri Lankan military deep penetration unit. Raveenthirarasa left home on 22 August afternoon. His family went searching when he did not return home for the night and discovered his body. On 22 August SLA attempted to move forward at the Vadamunai area in Batticaloa. LTTE returned defensive fire. SLA gave up the attempt but as they withdrew they shot dead two civilian. Bodies of two women were washed ashore along the shores of Punguduthivu islet off the coast of Jaffna peninsula on 21 August. They may have been boat people from Mannar trying to flee to Tamil Nadu.
