Activities of GoSL operated forces – 11 July
Jaffna: On Tuesday, 11 July, the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) attacked a bus driver and conductor on the bus in Kodikammam. This is the third bus attack in which SLA entered a civilian bus and attacked the bus driver and civilians in recent months. The Jaffna District Transportation Workers Union workers protested against the attack, once again urgently calling for the GoSL to assure safety to civilian bus passengers.
Two previous bus attacks by the SLA occurred on 2 July in Kokkuvil and on 1 May in Allaipiddy. After both incidents the SLA Head Quarters pledged through the Jaffna AGA that future attacks will not take place. In the recent attacks, the bus drivers, conductors and civilian passengers sustained injuries. Jaffna: On Tuesday, 11 July, Jaffna Magistrate Court employees protested against the attempted attack and threats to Additional Magistrate Srinithi Nandasegaran. The SLA attempted to attack Srinithi’s vehicle on Palaly Road on Sunday, 9 July. Srinithi and her driver have been receiving threats from the SLA recently. The Court employees urged the GoSL to remove threats and any barriers that prevent the judicial system from functioning and requested security to court employees. Three SLA soldiers involved in the incident were arrested, released on bail, and ordered not to perform duties in the presence of civilians.
