Civilian casualties during the CFA
This website has recently added a new menu “Civilian casualties” that contains four reports about Tamil civilian casualties during the CFA in the Northeast. Vast majority of these civilian casualties are unreported in the Colombo centric international media for the reasons described below.
The Colombo centric international media is unable to report the ground reality accurately because, for most part the international media obtains its information from GoSL sources. It must be abundantly clear to those, who have followed the news reports on the conflict, that GoSL is unhesitant about releasing bold lies about incidents in the Northeast. The recent news reports are scattered with many examples of such bold lies released by the GoSL. One must reflect why the GoSL is quick and ready to release such bold lies without any hesitation or concern about being caught. There are good reasons for this boldness of the GoSL. The confidence of GoSL to utter bold lies is, first and foremost, based on their awareness of the ignorance of the Colombo bound international media about the ground reality in the Northeast. GoSL is also very cozy in the confidence that they have successfully taken the Colombo bound international media for a ride for over the last two decades. In addition to these “media guiding”, when GoSL wishes to block very bad news about GoSL from coming out, its defense ministry bars daring international journalists from going to the spot to report. As long as the above “media arsenal” of the GoSL are in place international media will remain impotent to report the ground reality in the Northeast.
