
Civilians affected by shelling, killings continue in Batticaloa
Murugupillai Mahadevan (26) and Sinnaiya Somasundaram (31) were found dead with gunshot wounds in the jungle of Saththurukondan, Batticaloa on Tuesday, 18 July in the morning. Residents in the area stated that the men were abducted by GoSL operated gunmen from their homes on the previous day. The dead bodies were taken to Batticaloa Hospital.
On Monday, 17 July, the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) fired more than 50 artillery shells toward civilian homes in LTTE areas from the Punani SLA camp in Vahaneri around 10.00 am. The shelling lasted for 30 minutes. One civilian, Kanapathipillai Krishnapillai, was wounded in the shelling.
