Civilian killings by SLAFs and paramilitary since the Allaipiddy massacre

The Northeast, still drenched with the bloody scenes from the Allaipiddy massacre on 13 May, continue to face violence from the Sri Lankan armed forces (SLAFs) and its paramilitaries. Since the Allaipiddy massacre, just over ten days ago, 18 Tamil civilians have been killed by the SLAFs and its paramilitaries.

The murders are becoming so common and part of everyday life in the government controlled areas of the Northeast that local Tamil newspapers are beginning to report the news in a minor way, presenting the news in one-inch reports.

Of these killings, 11 were by paramilitary and 7 were by the SLAFs, claiming as usual that they were LTTE. SLAFs have a tradition that goes back several decades of claiming the civilians they kill as LTTE members. One case where SLAFs claim was proved to be wrong recently was the shooting and killing of seven labourers in Nelliadi on 4 May which the SLMM has ruled as a CFA violation.

The civilian killings since the Allaipiddy massacre are listed below.
