Tamil National Member of Parliament escapes grenade attack
Tamil National Alliance member of parliament Sivananthan Kishore, escaped a grenade attack on his house on Sunday. One of the policeman giving him protection was wounded in the attack in which six grenades were lobbed into the MP’s house.
Even as recently as last Thursday, Kishore contacted the Secretary of the Ministry for Nation Building on behalf of the 13,000 displaced families in Vavuniya whose relief was ordered to be stopped by the government. These families displaced recently from villages near Forward Defense Lines due to the military offensives and have not been allowed to resettle in their homes. Kishore has requested the ministry that these 13,000 families must be provided relief or they must be allowed to resettle in their own homes. The Secretary of the Ministry of Nation Building, realizing that people cannot be allowed to resettle has agreed to continue the relief until December.
It is also worth noting that Kishore was arrested and detained by the Sri Lanka Army in 1999.
