
SLA activities in the northeast on 30 April, 1 May 2006
SLN shot my father - Daughter of man killed by SLNOn 30 April early morning, following a claymore attack directed at the SLN, SLN entered the home of Rasamani Sangarapillai (74) and shot him dead. His daughter, while giving evidence to the judge who arrived at the scene, her father begged the SLN not to shoot him but the SLN went ahead and shot him.
A neighbour, Podi Mathaya David, in his statement to the judge said that SLN also entered his him and was about to shoot him. David added, “I too begged them not to shoot me. On orders from their chief they stopped shooting me. However, they beat me on my head with their guns before leaving my home”. Driver and assistant of State Bus service attacked by SLN in Kytes in Jaffna On 30 April, the driver and his assistant driving the bus belonging to the State Bus service were attacked by Sri Lankan Navy in Kytes in Jaffna. P Sabanayagarajah (46) and K Pirapaharan (33) were injured by the SLA attack and were admitted to Jaffna hospital. The two injured men allege that SLN kicked them with their boots and when they fell they were beaten with the gun. The employees of the State Bus service in Jaffna protested the attack by the SLN with a one day strike on 1 May. Member of local government arrested by SLA Member of local council for Akkaraipatru-Alaivembu in Amparai district, Anandan was arrested by SLA after a round up of the area on 1 May 2006. Another man, three-wheeler driver, Vasanthan was also arrested during the round up. No reason for the arrest was given. Tamil refugees abandoned in the sea between Indian and the Northeast Eight Tamil refugees have been abandoned by the boat owner in Palk Straits seas. Fishermen who sited the refuges informed Indian authorities who have launched a search operation for the refugees. Large number of people have started to displace to India through the sea fearing the atrocities of the Sri Lankan armed forces and a resumption of war.
