SLA abducts Tamil youth from home, assaults family
Balakrishnan Rajeevmohan (21) was abducted from his home in Elavalai, Jaffna by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA). Up to seven persons disguised by black balaclava jumped over a locked gate into the property of Rajeevmohan’s home around 1:00 am on Tuesday. The men knocked on all of the windows, shone their flashlights into the home and demanded the occupants of the house to open the door.
When the occupants opened the door, the invaders grabbed Rajeevmohan. His mother screamed and the SLA soldiers held her at gunpoint and threatened to shoot her. They also hit an older relative of Rajeevmohan. 25 SLA soldiers who had surrounded the house left the premises shouting in Sinhala with the abductors taking Rajeevmohan with them. They left in two SLA army vehicles and one white van parked outside of the house. The family has laid complaints with, the Elavalai policy, the SLMM office, NorthEast Secretariat On Human Rights, and the Jaffna branch of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission. Rajeevmohan had returned from Doha, Qatar, four months ago, after working there for almost two years.
