Activities by GoSL operated forces, 31 July-1 August

The GoSL operated forces continue with killings and abduction throughout NorthEast.

Jaffna: Visvalingam Kauroopan (24) from Karanavaim was chopped to death. His body was found in Siruppiddi Kannaki Amman temple area on 1 August. Kauroopan disappeared on 30 July after he left work for lunch.

His relatives lodged a complaint with the Jaffna Human Rights Commission (HRC) that the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) troopers were responsible for his killing with strong evidence. The family stated in the complaint that he was detained in the SLA sentry post located on his way to his house on Point (Munai) road.

Jaffna: Sannasi Kavichchanthiran from Thondamanaru was shot and killed by GoSL operated forces on 1 August around 12.30 pm. The gunmen followed him when he was on his way to his house on a bicycle and shot him.

Jaffna: Krishnakumar (59), Vice Principal of Jaffna Hindu College, was attacked by SLA forces on 27 July after claymore attack in Jaffna. The Vice Principal was his way to school when he was severely attacked by SLA as the army opened fire and physically attacked civilians. Due to this attack on a Head of the school, students started to boycott their classes. Jaffna schools were shut down Monday in protest of the attack.

Trincomalee: Kaliyuganathan Geethansan (22) from Abeyapura was shot and killed by GoSL operated forces on the night of 31 July. The gunmen came on a motorbike, called him out of the house and shot him.

Batticaloa: Gnanasegaram Mohathasan (18) from Akkaraipattu, was shot and killed by GoSL operated forces on 1 August at 8.30 pm. He was living in a welfare centre for internally displaced people in Ramakrishna Mission School. Mohathasan was driving a land master tractor along Akkaraipattu Sagamam road when he was shot dead.

Vavuniya: A woman from Iluppaikulam was brutally shot and killed by GoSL operated forces in the early morning of 1 August. The gunmen forcibly entered her house and stole valuable items. During the incident the woman refused to let her valuables be taken from her and she was shot dead by the gunmen. Three other women living in the house were wounded in the incident.
