
Ongoing civilian attacks in Jaffna
Within the last few days GoSL operated forces have stepped up civilian attacks through various shooting incidents throughout Jaffna.
Sinnathurai Mangaleswaran (47), a shopowner, was shot and killed in Kokkuvil on Thursday, 20 July around 6.30 pm. Gunmen on a motorbike carried out the killing in a highly secured by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA). Residents stated that because the gunmen were able to carry out this attack in an area highly secured by the SLA, they believe the gunmen were working with the SLA. Nadarajah Ravindrakumar (29), an owner of a saloon, was shot and killed in Inuvil on Thursday, 20 July around 7.30 am. Gunmen on a motorbike shot Ravindrakumar as he was opening his saloon. Krishnapillai Srikrishnan (22) was shot and killed by gunmen in Irupalai on Thursday, 20 July around 8.30 am. An officer of the Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) was severely assaulted by the SLA in Varani on Thursday, 20 July. The TRO officer was taken by the SLA, blindfolded, and beaten inside of a SLA camp located in Thaavalai, Iyatalai. The TRO Jaffna district office filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission against the SLA.
