Activities of GoSL forces - 29 June
Trincomalee: killing: On 28 June, Chellaih Varnakulasingam (55), local-government employee, of Kaddaiparichchan, Sampoor, an LTTE area, was beaten to death and his body was thrown into a well by the SLA when he passed through the Kaddaiparichchan SLA checkpoint.
Jaffna: killing: On 28 June, at 8.00 pm, Thayanithi Ketheeswaran (29) of Pandiruppu, Kalmunai in Ampara district, was shot and killed at his home by gunmen belonging to the GoSL operated forces. Jaffna: disappeared: Three women were arrested by the SLA of Mulli SLA camp in Jaffna and were unlawfully taken to the camp, instead of handing the arrested over to the police. Mannar: firing: On 28 June morning, the Mannar High Court was fired at from the bushes behind the court complex during its sitting. Everyone was terrified and screamed. Given the recent incident in Pesalai, on 17 June, when Sri Lankan Navy went on rampage killing and burning, the terror among the people is real and fresh. Those at the hearing including the lawyers and Judge N M M Abdullah, took to safety under the tables. The hearing was forced to be postponed until 12 July. Jaffna: shot and injured: On 29 June, at 7.30 pm, Ilayathambi Vanniasingam (43) of Navali Jaffna was shot and injured by gunmen belonging to the GoSL operated forces.
