Norway ambassador meets LTTE Political Head
Norwegian ambassador, Hans Brattskar, arrived in Kilinochchi today and held a meeting with S P Tamilselvan, the LTTE Political Head, at the LTTE Political Head Quarters. Speaking to the media following the meeting, Tamilselvan explained the purpose of and discussions at the meeting.
Tamilselvan said, “The meeting was one of the regular meetings held with the Norwegians as facilitators of the peace process. Norway will continue with their facilitation role and it is up to the two parties to implement the CFA as they have agreed upon. However, this meeting is also important because it comes immediately after the Oslo meeting and in the background of intensified killing, disappearances, aerial bombing and shelling and deep penetration claymore attacks by the SLA forces”. Tamilselvan said, “We have described in detail the atrocities by the SLA and firmly told to the ambassador that there is limit to our patience and we will be forced to intensify our defensive actions against the undeclared war being conducted by the GoSL”. In response to a question about the LTTE response to the five questions sent by Norway, Tamilselvan said, “We have sent our responses through the LTTE Peace Secretariat. We have said that it is difficult to wait the long period asked by the Norway to find replacements for the SLMM monitors from EU countries”. Tamilselvan also said that he explained to the Norwegian ambassador the reasons behind the LTTE position for requesting the EU monitors in the SLMM to be replaced. He said that the LTTE has indicated prior to the EU decision that a ban by EU will disturb the neutrality of the SLMM. He said that it is unfortunate that EU has believed the propaganda of the GoSL. Tamilselvan said that throughout the civil war, whenever peace efforts are made, GoSL always carried out propaganda to disturb the peace efforts. The actions by the present GoSL, he said, is no different. The EU ban, he said, is the result of such propaganda by the GoSL. Tamilselvan also said that he requested the ambassador to explain the LTTE position to the three EU countries in the SLMM and to convey LTTE’s gratitude for the services they have given in the SLMM.
