Second SLA claymore attack in LTTE area within 24 hours
The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) carried out its second claymore attack against a medical vehicle within the last 24 hours in an LTTE area. This is the third SLA claymore attack against the same medical services vehicle in two months.
The vehicle, belonging to Tamil Eelam Health Services was carrying four civilians, three health officials and the driver, when it was hit by a Sri Lankan army (SLA) in the LTTE area of Nayinamadu, Vavuniya. The civilians narrowly escaped with injuries. This incident took place 12 km southwest (see map) of a SLA claymore attack in Nedunkerni which killed five civilians yesterday, 8 August. A Mobile Health Unit carrying one of the same victims in today’s attack was hit by a SLA claymore on 8 June in Akkarayan, Kilinochchi. One nurse from mobile health unit was killed in the June attack. Tamil Eelam Health Service operates in more remote areas of the NorthEast in order to provide medical services to civilians who are unable to reach a medical facility.
