SLN artillery fall in the fishing grounds in Vadamaradchy
Sri Lanka Navy artillery shells fell in the fishing grounds in deep sea, frightening the fishermen who hastily retreated to the shore. The incident occurred in Vadamaradchy east area on Wednesday morning.
Fishermen in the area said SLN conducts regular military training exercises in shallow seas which causes fear among the people fishing. The fear is preventing fishermen from going to sea denying them their daily income.
Disregarding the CFA and the agreements reached at the Geneva talks the SL Navy has been tightening its ban on the fishing areas where fishermen are permitted to fish. It is worth noting that this artillery shelf fell within the limited area where fishermen have been allowed to fish. This flies in the face of all agreements reached in Geneva to implement the CFA. Vadamaradchchi east and the adjoining coast are in the LTTE controlled area. Artillery shell from SLAFs fire has fallen in the LTTE controlled area for the second time within a fortnight.
