Two Halo Trust Demining workers abducted by SLA
On Wednesday morning at 5.30 am Narayanamoorthy Kandeepan (30) and N Tharmasri (28) received calls asking them to report to work. Both men worked for the Halo Trust Demining service in Jaffna. The two men left for work as usual.
A few hours later a young person in the neighbourhood brought the National Identity Cards and some photos belonging to the men to their home which she had found on the road. Alarmed by this, the family started investigating. Witnesses have told the family that they saw the two men stopped by the Sri Lankan Army soldiers on the road.
According to the witnesses, a scuttle had broken out on the road when the two men resisted being put in a white van by the Sri Lankan soldiers. The men’s belongings had dropped on the road during the scuttle. The men were driven away in the white van.
The two men belonged to the same family and they lived on the Power Station Road in Odakkarai in Point Pedro.
