SLA attacks students hostel of St Xavier Boys College in Mannar
Following gunshots fired at the SLA post situated in the public sports ground in Mannar, on Sunday night 25 June, the SLA entered the nearby student hostel of the St Xavier Boys College and started to open fire at the students who were busy studying. Several students have left the hostel after the frightening experience.
The hostel Deluxa House, houses about 90 students who study at the St Xavier Boys College. At the time of the attack students were in their study room in the second story. When the SLA opened fire at the building, the Warden of the hostel immediately took the students down stairs and put them in their rooms and shut the doors. The SLA then entered the building and broke the doors to the student rooms and started attacking the students. The Catholic priests who were in charge of the hostel were also humiliated when they intervened. The SLA again surrounded the hostel at midnight the same night and searched the building till 7.00 am the next day. Many frightened students left the hostel after this. The same SLA has entered several homes nearby. They have chopped down fences and productive trees from the house premises so that they can have clear view of the surroundings of the SLA post.
