NESOHR and TRO release statistics on affected civilians of Northeast
Northeast Secretariat on Human Rights (NESOHR) and Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) have released statistics on affected civilians of Northeast over the last few weeks.
NESOHR issued statistics on civilian deaths, injuries and disappearances since 20 November 2005. NESOHR stated that this data was collected from local newspapers since the increasing violence has prevented them from using their regular channels for collecting violations. NESOHR further stated that such data is essential to inform everyone about the grave situation in Northeast. NESOHR presented the information on the civilian deaths, disappearances and injuries in three different tables. According to these tables, 45 civilians have been killed, around 25 civilians have disappeared and 17 civilians have been seriously injured; the majority of which have been committed by Sri Lankan military and its paramilitaries. Scores more have been arrested in addition to disappearances according to the statistics. In the meantime, Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) has released statistics on the number of families who have displaced from Jaffna to the LTTE administered area of Vanni.
