Senior LTTE member killed by SLA in Batticaloa
Major Kapilan, a senior LTTE official, was killed by Sri Lankan Army (SLA) and paramilitaries when an LTTE vehicle was attacked in Vadamunai, a LTTE-administered area. The attack took place on Thursday around 9:00 am.
The attack, which involved the SLA launching a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) on the LTTE vehicle, injured another LTTE member. The SLA then shelled the Vadamunai civilian area to aid the SLA in retreating to their camp, but no civilians were injured in this attack. LTTE officials in Batticaloa determined that the attack came from the SLA’s 23-1 Brigade Camp in Welikande. The attack on the LTTE members followed the Norwegian Minister and Special Envoy Erik Solheim’s visit, which resulted in an agreement between the LTTE and the Government of Sri Lanka to hold talks on the implementation of the CFA in Geneva, Switzerland.
