Trincomalee Tamils displaced in Mannar
Trincomalee civilians displaced to Mannar due to fear of violence are housed in two churches in Mannar. About 40 people including 15 children under the age of 16 are staying in the church in Talaimannar. About 200 people are staying in the Pesalai church. Actions are still being considered to find temporary shelters for the displaced families.
In the meantime people are crossing to India in fishing boats, at great risk to their lives. Several people have already died in trying to travel by boat to India. Six Tamil civilians killed over the past two days GoSL operated forces shot and killed Pooranam Sabesan (26), a small business owner, and Vimalasuriar Kohilarajah (26) on 28 May in Vaddukoddai in Valikamam; Subramaniam Thevaraj on 29 May in Erlalai North, Jaffna. SLAFs planted claymore in LTTE area killed Subramaniam Jeyarooban (24) in Vilathikulam, Vavuniya on 29 May. Sri Lankan Navy shot and killed Nagarajah Selvarajah and Nadarajah Nageswaran, two fishermen while they were at sea. Their dead bodies were washed ashore in Araly, Valikamam on 29 May.
