Swedish Envoy Anders Oljelund meets with LTTE Political Head

Swedish Envoy Anders Oljelund met with LTTE Political Head S P Tamilselvan in Kilinochchi today, 21 July at 11.00 am. At the meeting Tamilselvan and Mr Oljelund discussed the current situation in the Northeast, the consequences of the EU ban and three major points to be conveyed to the international community.

In addressing the press, he put forward the three major points discussed with Mr Oljelund. He said that by conveying the three major points to the international community, more pressure needs to be placed on the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) to end violence against Tamil civilians and fully implement the CFA.

The major points are as follows:

 Terror unleashed by GoSL against Tamil people of our homeland must be stopped immediately. Normalcy can only prevail if the GoSL removes Sri Lankan armed forces from civilian areas and begins to fully implement the CFA.

 Peace efforts, the peace process and the CFA are all based on the parties having parity of status. Through this realisation of parity of status, and understanding of the aspirations of the Tamil people, the international community can make genuine efforts in moving the peace process forward.

 The All Party Conference (APC) created by the Mahinda Government is merely a strategy using delaying tactics to mislead the international community. Past committees created in the same fashion and with the same intentions have attempted to address the issues of the Tamil people and have failed.

The meeting was also attended by S Nadesan, Head of LTTE Police and S Puleedevan, Secretary General of LTTE Peace Secretariat.
