
Activities of GoSL operated forces – 5 July
Mannar:Armed Sri Lankan navy (SLN) men entered the St. Lucia church in Pallimunai, Mannar on Wednesday, 5 July for a search operation. Civilians, who in the church for prayers, stated that the navy men walked through all areas of the church, including the altar. After searching inside the church, the navy men assaulted a youth outside of the church.
Mannar: Fifty-five (55) more civilians from Pesalai, Mannar have displaced to Tamil Nadu due to their loss of livelihood. All of the families are families of fishermen, and have been suffering without food or work for the past two weeks due to the Sri Lankan navy’s ban on fishing in the area. Since the 17 June attack on the Pesalai church, hundreds of families have displaced to Tamil Nadu. Jaffna: Three workers were assaulted by the Sri Lankan army (SLA) on Wednesday, 5 July. The workers, sand distributors of the Vadamarachchi East Rehabilitation organization, were going to a sand distribution center office in Kuddathanai when the SLA soldiers stopped them and severely beat them. Jaffna: The SLA set up a new military camp in Vallai in addition to the four existing military camps in Vallai bridge area. This is a non-residential area and many civilians already avoid traveling through this checking area alone.
