LTTE accepts SLMM proposal for sea transport of Eastern commanders
LTTE today accepted the proposal brought by SLMM head Major General Ulf Henricson during a meeting between the two held in Kilinochchi.
The suggestion was made by the Head of SLMM to arrange the sea transport of the LTTE’s eastern commanders by engaging a civilian vessel with SLMM monitors including the Head of Mission himself on board. Mr. Tamilselvan requested time to convey the idea to the leadership. After discussions with the leadership during lunch break, Mr.Tamilselvan conveyed to SLMM head the agreement of the leadership to SLMM’s suggestion. Accordingly, it was agreed that SLMM would proceed to make arrangements for the commanders to travel to Kilinochchi on 15th April and return on 22nd April. Geneva II will take place after 22 April 2006. Mr.S.P.Tamilselvan also conveyed to the Head of Mission, LTTE leadership’s serious concern over the acceleration of Sri Lankan military violence against Tamil civilians especially the pattern of communal pogrom evolving in Trincomalee and the series of attacks against civilians and LTTE cadres in many parts of the Tamil homeland killing and injuring several. Mr.Tamilselvan requested the SLMM to convey these sentiments to the government and ensure a violence free environment that would be conducive to Geneva II.
