
SLA activities 31 May and 1 June
KillingThe body of a man found on 31 May near the sea in Mannar was identified as that of Arulappu Jesuthasan Prince Croos, 38, of Ward No: 06, Vankalai. He was arrested by the SLA from Mannar Bazaar area on 26 May.
Abductions Jaffna: A man and woman on a motorbike traveling from Point Pedro to Jaffna were taken into the Irupalai military camp by the SLA at 9.30 am on 1 June. Fear has been expressed for the safety of the two. Trincomalee: An officer of the NGO MPCS, Selvarajah Gajanathan was abducted at the Kaddaiparichchan SLA checkpoint on 1 June at 4:00 pm. Gajanathan was at the checkpoint to transfer food items from GoSL area to LTTE. Gajanathan was involved in distributing food items for the large number of internally displaced people who have displaced out of fear and SLA shelling. House to house search in Jaffna More than hundred Police and SLA in heavy vehicles arrived at the famous Nallur temple near Jaffna town and went house to house searching in the area. Nallur temple surroundings, Sivan temple road, Temple road, Point Pedro Road and Cheddi Road were search by the SLA. Passers by were also stopped and harassed during this operation. Displacement due to shelling and fear Jaffna: SLA shelled residential settlements in Vadamaradchi east in LTTE area on the early morning of 31 May. People immediately displaced from the area and thus avoided any loss of life. The shelling has been repeated on several occasions over the past few weeks with a few days of no shelling in between. Trincomalee: About tem families in GoSL controlled areas of Mutur in Trincomalee moved out to safer areas due to the escalation in number of killings of young men. In the last week five young men have been killed by GoSL operated forces. Several thousand families in Muttur east have already been displaced following shelling and artillery attacks by the SLA in April, and are living in temporary shelters. Batticaloa: 350 families from the border village of Omadiyamadu in Batticaloa displaced on 29 May due to incessant SLA shelling. 150 of these families were cared for in the Maruthankulam school in LTTE area others are staying with relatives.
