
Civilian killed by SLA deep penetration unit claymore attack
A claymore attack by the deep penetration unit of the Sri Lankan military in Mullaitivu killed one civilian and injured another.
On 26 August night a tractor-trailer, carting building material, came under the claymore attack by the deep penetration unit in the LTTE administered area of Oddusuddan in Mullaitivu. The driver, Suntharampillai Chandrakumar was killed instantly. Another passenger, Markandu Sivaruban, was seriously injured and admittedly to the Puthikkudiyiruppu hospital. The other civilian injured is a 28 year old woman, Vadivel Kalanithy. Several homes were destroyed by the shelling and people were forced to displace. The SLA shelling was carried out from the 233 Division in Batticaloa town, from the Vavunathivu SLA camp, and from Valaichenai paper factory camp. Shells landed and exploded in several villages including, Ilupadichenai, Karadiyanaru, Mankikaddu, Navatkadu, Soriyamunai, Karaveddi, Eechanthivu, Koduvamadu, Thammanveli, Eranaikulam, Koraveli, Koolavadi, Tharavai and Vellamaichenai.
