
SLA Claymore attack in Vanni jungle targets Mobile Health Unit
On 8 June, at 11.45 am, a SLA claymore attack targeted a Mobile Health Unit seriously wounding the civilian driver and a civilian nurse. The doctor and another civilian nurse were injured in the attack. The two seriously injured victims were taken to the Kilinochchi hospital.
 SLMM monitors are inspecting the explosion site Tamileelam Health Service operates a Mobile Health Service which makes regular scheduled visits to remoter parts in the LTTE areas to provide medical service to the people who otherwise lack adequate medical service. It was the vehicle belonging to this Mobile Health Service that was attacked by the SLA claymore. The vehicle was carrying a senior doctor, two civilian nurses and a civilian driver. The Mobile Health Unit was traveling from Mulankavil to Kilinochchi, after one of its scheduled visits, through a dense jungle area when it came under attack. SLMM had visited the area and has carried out investigations. It is worth noting that Lt Col Kankaiamaran, was killed at this exact spot by a claymore attack during the war time.
