Government employee shot dead by SLA paramilitariesOn 24 April morning, gunmen wearing helmets entered the office of the zonal education office in Vaharai in Batticaloa and shot and killed Kanagaratnam Lingeswaran (29) who works there as a clerk. In the shooting, A Nagalingam (53) was also seriously injured.
SLA opens fire and kills two civilians in a vehicle On Monday, 24 April night, SLA opened fire on a vehicle in Kanagampuliyadi junction in Jaffna killing two civilians. SLA said that the passengers in the vehicle were firing at the SLA. However, people said that the SLA killed two in retaliation for the claymore attack that took place in Sarasalai. Father of baby shot dead by paramilitaries Rasanayam Jegan (26), father of a five months old baby, was called by three men on the night of Sunday, 23 April. When Jegan came outside his home, the three men, who had arrived in a white-van, shot and killed him and escaped. The incident occurred in front of Jegan’s home in Maravankulam in Vavuniya. Two youths shot dead by SLA in Batticaloa On Monday, 24 April, at 7.45 am, two youths were shot dead by SLA in Kommanthurai road in Vantharumoolai, 18 Kms from Batticaloa town. SLA claimed that the two were LTTE members. Vavuniya businessman abducted On Monday, 24 April, at 8.30 pm, five armed men arriving in white-van abducted a Vavuniya businessman, Pulikuddi, at gunpoint, from his home in Bandariamman road. The gunmen blind folded Pulikuddi before taking him away. Sri Lankan Navy opens fire on Jaffna fishermen Fishermen fishing in the Nedunthivu seas were fired at by Sri Lankan Navy on 23 April night. SLN ordered the fishermen to jump in the sea or else they will kill them. Frightened fishermen jumped into the sea to escape the gunfire. SLN then stole all the fishing equipment from the fishermen. Fisher swam to the share. Next morning they again went fishing to earn a living for the day. SLN repeated its threat and opened fire at the fishermen. The fishermen again jumped into the sea and swam to the shore. LTTE members on motorbike in LTTE area shot by SLA On Monday 24 April at 2.30, SLA opened fire on two LTTE members traveling from Kokkadichcholai to Vavunithivu through Karadiyaru. There were no injuries to the LTTE members. Sri Lankan Navy increasing its posts along Vadamaradchi sea Sri Lankan Navy is increasing its posts along the coast of northern Jaffna seas, especially in Vadamaradchi. In addition fishermen are must o past these posts are being put through heavy checks.
