Tamil woman murdered
Ambalavanar Punithavathy (43) was murdered by GoSL operated forces on Tuesday, 4 July around 11.00 pm at her home in Uduvil, Jaffna. It is suspected that she may have been raped before her murder. Her home is located in an area fully occupied by several Sri Lankan army (SLA) camps and its intelligence office, which is 100 metres from the home.
Residents said Punithavathy was in her home with her mother when the gunmen forced entry to check her home. Punithavathy’s mother was beaten before Punithavathy was murdered. Residents added that SLA always harasses Punithavathy by asking her for water or tea, which they said Punithavathy has rightfully refused. Neighbors stated that boot prints of the SLA were found around Punithavathy’s home, which are recognizable because of the daily SLA patrol on the road. People in the area have stated that several complaints have been made against the Uduvil SLA camp, ranging from abductions to killings. The district court judge visited the home for investigation.
