
Sea Tigers clash with Sri Lanka Navy in eastern coast of Jaffna
At 8.45 pm on 1 September, clashes broke out between the Sea Tigers and the Sri Lankan Navy in Thalayadi shores which is off the LTTE administered area in eastern parts of Jaffna. The clashes lasted for 7 hours.
Additional Sri Lankan Naval vessels arrived from Trincomalee Naval base and the KKS naval base of the Sri Lankan Navy. Three Sri Lankan naval vessels were badly damaged by the Sea Tigers. Sea Tigers forced the Sri Lankan Navy to withdraw from the area all the way back to Thondamanaru sea which is in the North of Jaffna with their damaged vessels. Many Sri Lankan Navy personnel died in the battle, however exact number of casualties is not known. Eight LTTE members including five Black Sea Tigers died in the battle.
