
Out of town Jaffna University students demand to be sent home
The three week long curfew in Jaffna and the disruption of University session has stranded large number of students of Jaffna University who are from out of town. Many of these out of town students come from Colombo, Puttalam, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee, Amparai and Batticaloa. They total around 1500.
Over and above the lack of classes the students are very fearful due to the rampant arrests by the Sri Lankan military. University students in particular is being targeted by the military. The re-emergence of Thalaiyaddi in Jaffna has heightened the fear of the out of town students. These 1500 students have begun to agitate for their return to their home town.
