LTTE returns 28 under age youths
Twenty eight under-age youths who volunteered to join with the LTTE have been returned either to their parents or are joined at the Education and the Skill Development Centre (ESDC) during the month of January. All the children were released through one of the following organizations: ICRC, UNICEF or NorhtEast Secretariat on Human Rights(NESOHR). Eight of them were handed over to their parents directly. Twenty under-age youths who do not want to return to their home have been sent to the ESDC.
A three member committee of the LTTE Peace Secretariat has been working on the issue of under-age youths who volunteer to join with the LTTE by giving false information. This committee identifies the under-age youths in the LTTE upon receiving complaints from their families. To date, thousand of such youths have been identified and returned to their families by the LTTE.
