Jaffna remains a boiling pot despite scheduled peace talks
The rate of killing and disappearance in Jaffna showed no sign of letting up even as the dates for peace talks was announced.
During the week of October 15-21, 30 people were either killed or disappeared in Jaffna. The number being killed in the Northeast, in particular in Jaffna, is so high that single deaths do not even make it to most news. Even if they do, they sound very monotonous repetitions that they hardly register in the minds of the readers. A further seven people were killed in the same period in Batticaloa and Mullaithivu by aerial bombing. Among the seven killed by bombing were children aged, 1, 4, 10 and 14.
