
SLA threatens students on school grounds
Jaffna: As students were beginning to hold Black Tiger Day commemorations, the Sri Lankan army (SLA) forcefully entered Jaffna Hindu College and searched all areas in the school campus on 5 July around 11.30 am. The Jaffna Hindu College Students Union released a report about the harassment and threats of the SLA.
In the report, they stated that before entering the school grounds, a large number of SLA were deployed outside of the school. The SLA entered the campus with sniffer dogs and forcefully photographed students, teachers and school administrators. The SLA searched all students’ school bags. In concluding the report, the students stressed that the SLA has been harassing and threatening students regularly, and it has increased in the past few months. Batticaloa: The SLA forcefully entered the Eastern University campus on the morning of Wednesday, 5 July, threatened students by warning them not to participate in Black Tiger Day commemorations. The SLA also entered the school ground of Chenkalady school and removed the national leader’s photo from offices. Witnesses stated that the SLA came from the Chenkalady-Komanthurai SLA camp.
