Bodies of disappeared wood cutters discovered in Pannikankulam
Two wood cutters who went to the Panikankulam forest to collect wood for roofing, a week ago and have been missing ever since, were founds dead in the same forest.
The names of the dead men are, Veerakody Somarasa (60) of Thiruvaiyaru in Kilinochchi and Thoppilan Periyasamy (58) of Santhapuram in Kilinochchi. Panikankulam is 3 Kms off the A9 road near Mankulam inside the Mullaitivu district which is LTTE area. Villagers said that they have seen suspicious movements of armed men in black twice during the last 10 days. They said the armed men ran and hid when they saw the villagers. The villagers suspect that these armed men in black are from the Deep Penetration Unit of the Sri Lankan armed forces and they are responsible for the murders of the two wood cutters. SLMM has been informed of the discovery of the dead bodies and they are on their way to the site. It is worth noting three hunters were murdered in similar circumstances in the same region on 13 April by the Deep Penetration Unit of the Sri Lankan armed forces.
