August Victims – Tamil civilians killedGraph shows Tamil civilians killed by GoSL operated forces in the month of August. The number killed for each day from 1 August is plotted against the accumulated total killed from 1 August.
Gunmen on motorbikes shooting and killing civilians going about their daily life have become the most common method of planned killing. Karuna group in the east, EPDP group in the north, and Sri Lankan military all carry out this type of killing. Total killed by this method in this period is 135. This averages to five shooting and killing every day in the month of August. The month of August saw a sharp increase in Sri Lankan military onslaught on LTTE held areas. Starting in Trincomalee under the pretext of opening the Mavilaru sluice gate the Sri Lankan military onslaught shifted to Muhamalai and Allaipiddy in Jaffna and then back again to Sampur in Trincomalee lately. Total killed by bombing and shelling is 206. The rest of the killing includes Sri Lankan military claymore attacks in LTTE area and bodies washing ashore. This total is 12.
